This is the best place to try quality cachaça (rum). There are around 300 makes, from the most common to the rarest ones from the 19th Century. The fruit caipirinhas are also marvelous. Amongst the dishes that are served quickly, don’t miss out on trying the ‘escondidinho’ with shredded beef jerky, cream cheese and mashed manioc.

Bar styled on the hard Rock Cafes, with clothes and instruments from Brazilian pop music. The dance floor opens on Tuesday to Sunday, with shows nights. There are meals to suit all tastes, from the simple hamburger to the most elaborate dish. The waiters are quite something in their own right.
     

Gávea Hipódromo

Famous bar in the Baixo Gávea where party people hang out and where you can get a good draft beer and a pizza. Fills up with young people every night. There are tables on the verandas in a simple but pleasant environment.

This is a well sought after bar, which means that you have to wait for a table on Thursdays to Saturday. Youthful ambience with fashionably styled people. In the American bar you can choose between a margarita, different imported beers and special drinks. There are Japanese, traditional Brazilian appetizers, and also Mexican food offered.

It is an excellent place to stop off at after the beach, and its regulars consider it to serve the best draft beer in Rio de Janeiro. To accompany your drink, there are fried manioc balls or prawn and cream cheese balls, beef jerky with onions and farofa, among others.

Very traditional Carioca beach-side bar, The name is in homage to Brazil’s world cup tri-champions in 1970. Perfect for a sit down after the beach. On Saturdays it serves feijoada and on Sundays a good Brazilian hot-pot.

Well known for serving a good beer, black bean soup and for opening all night long. It still boasts one of the original panels painted by Nilton Bravo, an artist who painted the majority of Rio’s bars in the 50s and 60s.

This is open into the wee hours and it is an essential stop-off point for satisfying ones appetite on the way home.
Its sandwiches with melted cheese, pineapple and smoked pork or roast beef are unforgettable.
